Description
1802/1 Capped Bust Right Quarter Eagle VF20
1802/1 $2 1/2 VF20 PCGS. Breen-6118, Bass-3009, R.4. While all 1802 Quarter Eagles are traditionally referred to as overdates, no examples are known that display an irrefutable underdigit, and many numismatists regard the final digit as merely repunched. This example displays light yellow-gold color with deeper reddish accents. Noticeable softness on the portrait is likely attributable to strike, as the eagle's feathers more closely resemble XF quality. A few adjustment mark are noted along the right obverse border. From The Gene Holland Collection of United States Coins, Part Two.(#7650) (Registry values: P6)
