    1802 BD-1 Quarter Eagle, AU53
    Spiked Shield Reverse

1802 $2 1/2 BD-1, R.4, AU53 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther b/c. The reverse has a die line from the first A to the second feather tip, and a crack from the border through the final A to the inside curve of the C. All three 1802 quarter eagle varieties share a common die that, according to numismatic tradition, are 1802 over 1 overdates. However, most students of the series agree that these are not overdates. This greenish-gold quarter eagle, housed in a green-label holder has a bold strike and nearly full luster with minor clash marks and a vertical strike-through at the center of the reverse. Population: 12 in 53, 41 finer (11/16). (Variety PCGS# 45506, Base PCGS# 7650)
