Description
Desirable 1804 Quarter Eagle, 14 Star Reverse
1804 14 Star Reverse AU 50 PCGS. While the 14 Star variety is the more available of the two varieties of this year, such a comparison within the context of the Heraldic quarter eagle series by no means implies commonness. Meaning, out of a mintage of 3,327 pieces, today the 50 or so known pieces are more likely to exhibit the 14 Star reverse. The surfaces have a rich green-gold color overall with bits of original luster still to be found surrounding the devices. The striking details are generally well brought up, but the left portions of each side are weak, apparently from misaligned dies. A scarce piece of Draped Bust gold with the added mystique of the 1804 date.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 7652, GSID# 8214)
