    Description

1805 Capped Bust Right Quarter Eagle, BD-1
    AU53
    , Semiprooflike Surfaces

1805 $2 1/2 AU53 PCGS. Breen-6121, BD-1, R.4. The 1805 Capped Bust Right quarter eagle boasts a tiny mintage of 1,781 pieces, with a single die variety known for the date. John Dannreuther estimates a surviving population of only 100-150 examples in all grades. Both dies have a remarkable history. The long-lived reverse die was also used to strike all quarter eagles dated 1806 and 1807, and the 1807 dimes. The obverse was annealed, overdated, and rehardened for use on the 1806/5 BD-2 quarter eagle.
The present coin is an attractive AU53 specimen with well-detailed devices that show only a trace of wear. A few faint adjustment marks are present on the reverse rim at 10 o'clock. The surfaces are semiprooflike, with a number of minor abrasions on both sides. There is a die crack through stars 5-7 and across to LI in LIBERTY. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 8 in 53, 24 finer (5/11).(Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# BFVV, PCGS# 7653)

    Weight: 4.37 grams

    Metal: 91.67% Gold, 8.33% Copper
