Description

1805 Quarter Eagle, BD-1, AU Details
Early Mintage of Only 1,781 Pieces

1805 $2 1/2 BD-1, R.4 -- Cleaned -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/b. Die crack through tops of 805. This olive-gold 1805 quarter eagle has bright semi-reflective fields with generally sharp devices, given its early issue date. While much of the coin is well-struck, the central reverse is incompletely brought up and retains parallel roller marks from the planchet (as struck) over the shield extending through the upper right edge. The peripheral devices and legends fare better on both sides, with the eagle showing nice details throughout the wings and on the arrows and olive branches. Cleaning shows an unnatural brightness and has removed luster, and abrasions noticeable on Liberty's neck and under her chin account for the AU-level assessment.
