    Description

Choice Fine 1805 Two and a Half
    BD-1, Green Label Holder

1805 $2 1/2 Fine 15 PCGS. CAC. BD-1, R.4. Since pre-1834 gold coins had a bullion content in excess of face value, most did not circulate extensively. They were usually exported to Europe as a unit of gold, then melted for recoinage in local denominations. The present quarter eagle, though, managed to remain in commerce, or perhaps it was a favored pocket piece. It is toned olive-gold and shows only a couple of relevant marks, on the cap and eagle's neck. Encased in a green label holder.(Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# BFVV, PCGS# 7653)
