    Description

    Mint State 1805 Quarter Eagle
    BD-1, Sole Die Pair

1805 $2 1/2 MS60 NGC. Breen-6121, BD-1, R.4. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/a, cracked through the top three left-side stars and LIB(ERTY) but not through the date. Unusually for an early gold coin, it is believed by Bass-Dannreuther and other sources that virtually all 1,781 of the quarter eagles delivered in 1805 were dated the same, though today the issue is very scarce. As a Mint State coin it is a condition rarity, with a number of resubmissions likely among the 21 such listings in the combined certified population (10/11). The present piece has rich orange and sun-yellow luster with a dusky area to the right of Liberty's profile. Wispy abrasions and other marks contribute to the grade, though the slightly downward-sloping adjustment marks through the middle of the portrait should not be interpreted as post-striking damage.(Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# BFVV, PCGS# 7653)

    Weight: 4.37 grams

    Metal: 91.67% Gold, 8.33% Copper
