Description
Mint State 1805 Heraldic Quarter Eagle
1805 MS 61 NGC. A nice looking example of this rare early type. Heraldic Eagle quarter eagles are a very scarce and overlooked series, and while the 1805 has been accorded "common" status, it is really very rare when lifted outside the context of the series. A bit softly struck in the center of each side, as usual, the surfaces show none of the prooflikeness often seen on these coins. There are no distracting blemishes on either side, the only disturbance (and it is slight) are a series of barely noticeable adjustment marks at the top of the reverse (we didn't see them the first time we looked at the piece). Population: 2 in 61, only 1 finer (10/97).Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 7653, GSID# 8215)
Metal: 91.67% Gold, 8.33% Copper
Weight: 4.37 grams
AGW: 0.1288oz
Mintage: 1,781
