    Description

Rare 1806/4 Quarter Eagle, Uncommon Mint State Preservation

1806/4 $2 1/2 8x5 Stars MS 60 NGC. Until the advent of third party grading, most numismatists considered the 1806/4 quarter eagle to be an unobtainable issue in Mint State. Current population figures, however, show 9 examples in grades that range from MS 60 through MS 63 (2/00). This is obviously a limited group and the present specimen should not go unnoticed by advanced gold collectors. The obverse shows suitable striking definition and a few scattered abrasions that seem to account for the MS 60 grade. The reverse is not as boldly defined and the central area shows several adjustment marks (as produced). Both sides are moderately prooflike with rich copper overtones in the fields. This is a truly rare coin and one of only 1,136 pieces delivered. (NGC ID# BFVW, PCGS# 7654)

    Weight: 4.37 grams
