    Description

    1807 Quarter Eagle, BD-1, AU58
    An Attractive Type Coin

1807 $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. BD-1, R.3. CAC. The sole dies for this scarce date. The 1807 concludes the Draped Bust, Stars type of quarter eagle. The estimated mintage is given as 6,812 pieces, of which 250 to 350 are thought to exist. NGC and PCGS combined have graded 243 coins, a number of which are likely resubmissions. Certified examples are spread across the grading continuum, but concentrated in the Very Fine to low-end Uncirculated grades.
The yellow-gold surfaces of this near-Mint State specimen are tinged with reddish-gold around the peripheries and retain a good amount of mint luster in the recessed areas. The design features are generally well-struck, though some of the shield lines and breast feathers reveal the usual softness. Both sides are devoid of mentionable contact marks, and adjustment marks are completely absent.
While the 1807 is the most "common" date of the Draped Bust, Stars type quarter eagle, early gold coins do not frequently come this nice. As such, this piece will serve as one of the highlights of a high-grade type collection.(Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# BFVY, PCGS# 7656)
