    Description

1825 Quarter Eagle, BD-2, AU Details
    Well Struck

1825 $2 1/2 -- Damaged -- NGC Details. AU. BD-2, High R.4. The BD-2, with an estimated population of 80 to 100 coins, is the most available of three die pairs for the 1825 quarter eagle, though still very scarce regardless of grade. The recut 5 in the date which is lower than the 2, 1 and 2 away from fraction bar, and a large D in the denomination confirm the variety.

The yellow-gold surfaces display traces of luster in the recessed areas. The design elements are well-impressed, especially in the star centrils and Liberty's hair and cap. The devices are well-centered on the planchet and all dentilation is strong. Some small, shallow round digs are not all that detracting. The interested bidder should not be dissuaded by the NGC disclaimer as the damage is not that serious.
