    Description

1825 Capped Head Left Quarter Eagle, MS61
    BD-2, Rare in Mint State

1825 $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. BD-2, High R.4. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a. The key diagnostics for BD-2 include a recut 5 in the date and the reverse fraction centered under the arrow fletchings. The mintage of just 4,434 coins is low in an absolute sense, but the date is one of the more available issues in this challenging Capped Head Left series. Dannreuther (2006) suggests that 2,000 to 3,000 coins were struck from this die pair and that approximately 80 to 100 coins survive in all grades.

The prooflike surfaces of this Uncirculated representative offer bright yellow-gold coloration and radiant luster throughout. The devices exhibit needle-sharp striking detail with just a touch of high-point softness over the eagle's shield. Small ticks and wispy marks are lightly scattered over each side. Census: 13 in 61, 11 finer (7/14).(Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 25FG, PCGS# 7664)

    Weight: 4.37 grams

    Metal: 91.67% Gold, 8.33% Copper
