Description
Choice AU 1827 Quarter Eagle
1827 $2 1/2 AU 55 PCGS. Only 2,800 examples of the 1827 quarter eagle were produced, and curiously this issue is comparable in overall rarity to the much lower mintage (760 pieces) 1826 issue. Only 30-50 coins are believed extant today of both issues. The 1827 was the final quarter eagle issue struck with a diameter of 19 millimeters. The 1829-1834 deliveries measured 18.2 millimeters. Lightly rubbed over the highpoints (and also weakly struck), the original reddish tinted surfaces show a fair amount of luster surrounding the devices.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 7666, GSID# 8224)
