Description

1829 BD-1 Quarter Eagle, MS61
The Only Die Pair

1829 $2 1/2 BD-1, High R.4, MS61 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a, as always for this low mintage issue that saw a production of only 3,403 coins from a single die pair. Neither die shows any evidence of die cracks, clashmarks, or other defects. This is the first year of issue for the final design type of the early quarter eagles and utilized dies that saw no other combinations. The surfaces are satiny and lustrous in attractive light yellow-gold, with reflective fields. The strike is adequate with no apparent weakness, although the actual dies were not deeply engraved. Census: 4 in 61, 23 finer (11/21).
