    Description

    1830 Quarter Eagle, Reddish-Orange AU58
    Well-Preserved and Attractive

1830 $2 1/2 BD-1, R.4, AU58 PCGS. CAC. Only a single die combination was needed to manufacture the meager quarter eagle mintage of 1830, pegged at 4,540 coins, and those dies are known in only a single state due to their short usage period. (In fact, the same reverse die, showing repunching on the U of UNITED, was carried over and reused yearly up until the end of the Capped Bust quarter eagle series, in 1834.) This lightly circulated, high-end example shows generous eye appeal due to good preservation, with only a few small and scattered signs of contact. The beautiful orange-reddish color is another plus. This is an excellent representative of the design for type purposes. (NGC ID# BFW8, Variety PCGS# 45524, Base PCGS# 7670)
