    Description

Rare 1830 Quarter Eagle, Select BU Quality

1830 $2 1/2 MS 63 NGC. In keeping with production levels of this era, the Philadelphia Mint delivered a paltry total of 4,450 quarter eagles in 1830. This issue was not spared from the mass meltings that claimed many early federal gold coins, and fewer than 100 pieces are believed extant, most of which do not grade Mint State. A typically well produced example for the issue, this coin boasts crisply impressed devices, semi-prooflike fields, and pleasing green-gold coloration. The scattered abrasions are neither sizeable nor individually distracting. The 1830 is one of only six issues in the Capped Head Left, Reduced Size quarter eagle series.
