    Description

    1831 Quarter Eagle, MS 64

1831 MS 64 PCGS. The 1831 is obviously a rare coin, as one can judge from the mintage of only 4,520 pieces. Subtracted from that original production amount are an unknown, but substantial, number of coins that were worth more melted than their face value. As a result, very few pieces survive of this date. Of the ones that are known, there are a surprising number of uncirculated pieces extant. This is one of the finest specimens known of this rare date. The surfaces are free from all but the most trivial abrasions. The fields are somewhat mirrored, and even though covered with light patina, they flash through the haze with undiminished intensity. Well struck overall. A premium example of this rarely seen gold type. (NGC ID# BFWA, PCGS# 7671)
