Description
Choice AU 1831 Quarter Eagle, Prooflike
1831 $2 1/2 AU 55 NGC. The Capped Bust quarter eagle series is one of the most challenging group of coins in all of U.S. numismatics. Among the Reduced Size pieces from 1829 through 1834, the 1831 is a moderately difficult date to locate. This piece is fairly typical of others we have seen over the years with semi-reflective fields, bright yellow-gold color, and quite a strong strike on each side. There are numerous small field marks throughout, but none are large or distinctive enough to merit individual mention. From the Dr. Robert W. Dingle Collection.
