Description

Outstanding 1832 Quarter Eagle, MS62 NGC

1832 $2 1/2 MS62 NGC. With a low mintage of 4,400 pieces, it is little wonder that the 1832 is a rare find in any grade. According to Akers, a surviving population estimate of 200 pieces is too optimistic given the infrequency with which examples appear on the market. At the MS62 level, the "small handful [that] exist in this quality range" appear so sporadically as to underscore the importance of the present lot.
Among the finest certified survivors of this issue, the present coin shares the MS62 level with only 12 other coins between both major grading services (11/04, five are finer). A bright, prooflike coin, the otherwise yellow-gold surfaces show a thin veil of milky patina on the obverse. Both sides are typically marked for the grade with a number of tiny abrasions in the vulnerable fields. With razor sharp striking definition and outstanding eye appeal for the issue, this coin would do justice to any gold collection.
