Description

1834 Classic Head Two and a Half, MS62
Underrated First-Year Gold Type

1834 $2 1/2 Classic MS62 NGC. Large Head, Breen-6140, Variety 2, R.3. This relatively available die pairing shows an interrupted line of curls at the back of the Large Head obverse, combined with a reverse displaying a widely spaced AM. The 1834 Classic quarter eagle is an underrated early gold type coin in Uncirculated grades, definitely overshadowed by the much rarer 1834 Capped Head quarter eagles but still conditionally elusive in Mint State. Each side has bright yellow-gold color with occasional reddish accents. The striking details are strong over most of the design, except for the always-weak hair curls around Liberty's face. A few light, individually inconspicuous abrasions are scattered over each side.
