Description

Pleasing 1796 Quarter
Fine 12, B-2

1796 25C Fine 12 PCGS. B-2, R.3. On this variety, the 6 in the date is high and very near the bust; in LIBERTY, T and Y do not touch at the top; and the lower right star is spaced farther from the bust than star 1 is from the curl.
Light to medium gray patination bathes both sides of this Fine 12 example, and shows occasional splashes of bluish-purple color. The obverse dentilation is bold, as always on the 1796, while that on the reverse is weak in the upper right quadrant. The remaining design elements are nicely defined for the grade. The surfaces are remarkably clean for a coin that has seen moderate circulation.
