Famous 1796 Quarter, Very Good, B-2a1796 25C VG8 NGC. B-2a, R.3. Late dies with heavy breaks through the ERTY in LIBERTY. This late die state is rare, and was absent from Jules Reiver's extensive die state collection, but any 1796 is coveted as a single-year early silver type coin. From the first year of the denomination, if a few pattern 1792 quarters in white metal and copper are discounted. The present cream-gray, pale gold, and aqua-blue example is unmarked and slightly glossy. All legends are sharp, and the majority of the dentils on both sides are clear. Encapsulated in an earlier generation NGC holder.
