Description

Scarce and Attractive 1796 VF 35 Quarter

1796 25C VF 35 PCGS. High 6. B-2, R.3. Only 6,146 quarters were struck in the first year of production for the denomination. Just two die pairings were used in this initial year, the High 6 variety being the more common of the two. The surfaces on this appealing mid-grade example are highlighted in russet and sea-green shades, while the more accessible areas are a lustrous steel-gray. Only the slightest bluntness is noticed on the eagle's head, often an area of greater deficiency on the High 6 quarters we have examined. In short, the ideal collector type coin, one that combines history, rarity, popularity, and strong eye appeal. (NGC ID# 23RA, PCGS# 5310)
