Description

Rare 1804 Choice Fine Quarter
Exceptional for Grade

1804 25C Fine 15 PCGS. B-1, R.3. CAC. The low 4 in the date and the die flaw between stars 8 and 9 confirm the variety. Uniform and highly attractive medium gray patination covers both sides of this Choice Fine, each of which displays strong detail on the design features; indeed, an argument might be made for Very Fine definition. Close examination reveals no mentionable blemishes. This piece exhibits great eye appeal for a coin that experienced moderate circulation, a fact appropriately recognized by CAC. Steve Tompkins (2008) contends that the 1804 is more rare than the one-year-type 1796. We note that what appear to be fine obverse hairlines are on the holder, not the coin.(Registry values: P7)
