Description

Original B-1 1804 Quarter, Good 4
First Issue of the Heraldic Eagle Type

1804 25C Good 4 NGC. B-1, R.4. Found less often than the similarly produced 1796, especially in better grades. The 1804 marks the beginning of the Heraldic Eagle design, which continued through 1807. The heavy wear on this piece is as expected for the grade, but its uneven quality suggests axially misaligned dies that have here produced more detail lost on the right half of each side. Original light-gray patina covers both sides, with near-brilliant devices.(Registry values: P7)
