Description

XF Sharpness 1804 Quarter, B-1

1804 25C --Reverse Damage--NCS. XF Details. B-1, R.4. The die marker between stars 8 and 9 confirms the variety. While this piece has been "gently pummeled" on the reverse by some contemporary malefactor, it nonetheless has many commendable features. Shades of powder-gray and pinkish-gold grace both sides in an irregular fashion, much detail remains on both sides, and the coin displays well. The "gentle pummeling" is a series of smallish, shallow, round indentations inflicted on the eagle's neck, the shield, a couple of the stars above, and in the right (facing) field. The damage is worse than it sounds, however; the reverse actually shows a good deal more luster than does the obverse, and without a loupe the noted damage, confined to less than 20% of the reverse surface area, is not readily apparent.(Registry values: P7)
