Description

Well Defined 1804 Quarter
VF25, B-1

1804 25C VF25 PCGS. B-1, R.3. The more available of two 1804 quarter varieties for the year, distinguished by an obverse that shows a gap between the 4 in the date and the truncation of the bust. A die gouge is also visible between stars 8 and 9.
After a seven-year hiatus, quarter production resumed in 1804, this time with a Heraldic Eagle reverse. With only 6,738 coins struck, 1804 is the key-date of this four-year series.
Light silver-gray patina in the central areas transitions to deep electric-blue and lavender at the margins of this VF25 example. The design elements are better defined than ordinarily seen on the type, particularly the rims and shield, features that are usually weak. Both sides are pleasing for the grade, though some diagonal marks on the upper part of the eagle are mentioned for complete accuracy.(Registry values: P7)
