Description

Smooth VF30 1804 Quarter, B-1
Signature Star 9 Die Scratch

1804 25C VF30 NGC. B-1, R.3. The more available of the two die pairs for the year, the B-1 variety is "merely" scarce as opposed to the rare B-2. The die state shows in a clashed obverse and the signature die scratch overlapping one tip of star 9. The first quarters struck since 1796 and the debut of the Heraldic Eagle reverse, any 1804 is prized regardless of condition. This appealing, faintly luminous midrange representative has turquoise, lavender, and gold patina over a medium-gray base. The devices show clear changes in hue at the worn places, as often seen. For the varieties combined, Census: 5 in 30, 27 finer (11/11).(Registry values: P7)
