Description
1806 Draped Bust Quarter, AU58
Very Scarce Browning-7 Variety
High Condition Census Coin
1806 25C B-7, R.5, AU58 NGC. Ex: Jules Reiver Collection.
Tompkins Die State 1/4. T Low, RT close; branch touches top center
of C. Bold die cracks exist through E of AMERICA and the eagle's
eye. This is a somewhat unevenly worn example with light-gray
centers and bits of red-brown, tan, and dark-green border toning. A
few faint hairlines are noticeable on both sides, and the central
reverse details are, as typical, softly struck. For the variety,
this exact coin is prominent within the Condition Census, currently
listed as third in the Rea-Koenings-Haroutunian Census. It is a
well-known example among advanced early quarter collectors and is a
decidedly significant prize for the specialist, worthy of strong
pursuit. There are no fully Mint State B-7 examples certified by
either PCGS or NGC. NGC Census: 2 in 58, 0 finer (10/25).Ex: Cizik (9/1987); The Jules Reiver Collection / January Signature Auction (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 22327.
