1806 Draped Bust Quarter, VG10
Rare B-8 Die Variety, Early Die State

1806 25C B-8, R.6, VG10 NGC. Tompkins Die State 1/2. B-8 is the rarest die variety of the entire Draped Bust type, with an estimated 17 to 18 pieces known. Most are low-grade pieces with impairments. Steve Tompkins' Condition Census lists a single AU50 NGC coin as the finest, with the other top five examples ranging from Fine 15 to VF30. This problem-free VG10 coin displays even wear and natural lavender-gray and olive-russet patina. A faint old rim nick at 9 o'clock serves as a pedigree marker. The coin is plated in Early Quarter Dollars Of The United States Mint, where it is tied for 10th in the Rea-Koenings-Haroutunian census.
