Description

Attractive 1806 Quarter, B-9, AU Details

1806 25C --Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. B-9, R.1. Attributed by the following: the missing lower left serif of 1, the flag of which touches the hair curl; the tip of the flag of the 5 embedded in the arrow feathers; and five large berries, two inside and three outside of the olive branch.
This coin lacks the bisecting obverse crack seen on the majority of B-9 examples, and there are no rim cuds above ATE in STATES or above OF to the left side of the A in AMERICA, as seen on intermediate die states. A light crack runs through the tops of UNITED, the wingtip, and STAT, and another extends from the upper left shield corner to the eagle's beak.
The silver-colored surfaces retain traces of luster in the recesses, and reveal occasional fine hairlines under magnification. A few brownish toning streaks are visible on the obverse. The design elements are sharply defined, except for softness in the eagle's breast feathers and adjacent shield stripes. A few light adjustment marks are located on the central reverse, but significant abrasions are absent. The NCS disclaimer should not intimidate interested bidders, as the cleaning is light and does not detract from the coin's overall appeal.(Registry values: P5)
