    Description

    1806 B-9 Quarter, MS62
    Attractive Example, Middle Die State

1806 25C MS62 NGC. B-9, R.1. The B-9 variety of 1806 quarter is a commonly seen one, yet this piece graded MS62 lies just outside the Rea-Koenings-Haroutunian Condition Census as presented in Early Quarter Dollars, which is 66, 63 (multiples). The obverse can be attributed by the bottom of LIB rising progressively, the only use of this die. The reverse shows the tip of the 5 touching the arrows, the E in STATES above the adjacent T, and AME touching. This example is in Die State b, exhibiting one faint crack from from the rim to star 1 to the hair, a second much larger crack from the rim through the 1 in the date and bisecting the obverse to the E in LIBERTY. The reverse offers an interesting retained cud above ATE. This piece shows the normal weakness on stars 3 and 4 just below the clouds, and diagonal planchet adjustment marks appear through the center reverse. This piece is extremely attractive overall, showing few marks of any consequence and considerable mint luster remaining over silver-gold surfaces with a faint pinkish blush.(Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 23RD, PCGS# 5314)

It goes without saying that after the auction when we had a chance to have dinner together and get to know each other it even made it a better experience for me. I look forward to getting more involved with Heritage in the Future.
