Description

Interesting 1806 Quarter, B-9, MS62

1806 25C MS62 PCGS. B-9, R.1. This variety is easily identified by the vertical die crack that bisects the obverse, but other diagnostic points include an unevenly spaced date and the position of the denomination. There are 11 die states of Bolender-9, and this piece is State IX, according to the rubric by Breen. The crack extends from rim to rim on the obverse, and both sides show pronounced clash marks, which have not yet been removed by relapping. A small rim break is apparent above OF.
Pleasing silver-gray patina drapes the surfaces of this interesting specimen, with a waft of hazel toning is the field. The centers and several stars are soft, as typically seen, but there is plenty of flashy luster throughout. Both sides are minimally marked with just a few minuscule spots. This impressive example has lovely eye appeal and is housed in a green label PCGS holder.(Registry values: P5)
