Description

1806/5 Browning-1 Quarter, AU55
Original Surfaces, Bold Overdate

1806/5 25C B-1, R.2, AU55 NGC. Tompkins Die State 2/3. A sharp, Choice About Uncirculated example with strong central elements and reddish-gold luster remaining beneath rich auburn-brown toning. Bluish-gray overtones add to the compellingly original patina. The obverse stars are rounded (as always on B-1), yet the dentils are exceptionally sharp for the issue on both the obverse and reverse. A few light lines to the left of the date are noted beneath the toning, although the surfaces are well-preserved and few other marks exist. Census: 8 in 55, 16 finer (4/17).
