Description

1807 B-1 Quarter Dollar, MS64+
Light Silver-Gray Toning, Frosted Luster

1807 25C B-1, R.2, MS64+ NGC. Tompkins Die State 4/2. Nearly all B-1 quarters were struck with a worn collar die, and lack reeding on at least part of the edge. This example shows faint reeding on about half of the circumference. Likewise, the dentils are missing or weakly struck throughout both sides. Die clashing on the obverse shows signs of lapping, but Liberty's curls are complete and the stars retain their size.

Frosted silver-gray surfaces are essentially unmarked with full luster glowing from high-end, Choice Uncirculated surfaces. The eagle's feathering is sharp above the shield and on both wings. Two or three field stars show minor weakness, and the hair strands above Liberty's temple blend slightly, yet this is a splendid near-Gem example of the variety that is seldom available any finer. Census: 14 in 64 (3 in 64+, 2 in 64 ), 5 finer (5/18).
