    Description

    1807 Draped Bust Quarter, MS64+
Final Year of Design, B-2 Variety

1807 25C B-2, R.3, MS64+ NGC. Tompkins Die State 4/3. The Draped Bust design was retired after 1807, but the final mintage was a substantial 220,643 pieces. Two die varieties are known for the date, with this coin representing the B-2 variety, characterized by the missing left serif on the 1 in the date and the position of 25 far from UNITED on the reverse. The B-2 is not as available as its B-1 counterpart, but examples can be located in most grades with patience.

The present coin is a high-end Choice example, with sharply detailed design elements and well-preserved surfaces. The attractive golden-brown centers yield to pleasing violet peripheries on both sides, with original mint luster shining through the toning. Eye appeal is outstanding. Census: 12 in 64 (2 in 64+, 1 in 64 ), 3 finer (5/14). (NGC ID# 23RF, Variety PCGS# 38941, Base PCGS# 5316)
