    1796 B-2 Draped Bust Quarter
    Original Patina, Fine Details

1796 25C B-2, R.3 -- Damage -- PCGS Genuine. Fine Details. Tompkins Die State 2/1, before the heavy die breaks develops through LIBERTY in the upper obverse margin. The highlights of this piece are its relatively even strike and modest wear, and its deep, natural patina that casts each side in blue-gray, olive-green, and russet-gold hues. A tiny rim nick above the Y in LIBERTY is hardly noticeable. On the reverse, PCGS notes a partially drilled hold in the field below the wreath bow, and there are a couple of small digs near the A in STATES. For many collectors, this will be a pleasing, accessible example of this one-year Small Eagle type, an issue that is typically out of reach for many early type enthusiasts.
