DescriptionAbdul Hamid II gold 500 Piastres 1293AH Year 6, KM286, choice lustrous AU, extremely bold strike and a problem-free planchet. There is one minor rim bump on the obverse at 10 o'clock and the surfaces display minimal handling. The official mintage for this coin is 5 pieces, as reported in the United States mint report for 1885, but a few extra examples may have been struck before the Cairo Mint closed two years later. A specimen set of all the silver and gold denominations was struck in 1881 and this denomination was the "piece de resistance!" Certainly one of the rarest and most impressive Egyptian coins of all time!
