1971-S Eisenhower Dollar Presented by Richard Nixon to Rep. Jack McDonald

1971-S $1 Silver MS65 Uncertified. This coin was presented (by mail) from Richard Nixon to Rep. Jack H. McDonald. McDonald was a Republican representative from Michigan. He was appointed to the Republican Task Force on Urban Affairs, 1967; elected as a Republican to the Ninetieth Congress and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1967-January 3, 1973); was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1972 to the Ninety-Third Congress; later became a consultant; and today resides in Great Falls, Virginia.
The letter was written on White House stationery and enclosed in an envelope impressed with THE WHITE HOUSE in the upper left hand corner. The note is dated August 6, 1971 and reads: "Dear Jack: Last week I had the good fortune to receive one of the first Eisenhower silver dollars and to present one of the new coins to Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower. These coins were so impressive that I thought you would like to have an uncirculated specimen. It is one of the first strikes of these special dollar coins and, I think you will agree, is a beautiful example of our Nation's coinage. With best personal regards, Sincerely, RN [in script]."
Also included is an 8" x 11" color photo of Richard Nixon. There is also a certificate of authenticity from Odyssey Group, dated January 15, 2002. The original blue envelope and packaging is also included. The coin itself we grade MS65. It has a light touch of golden toning and is remarkably clean.(Registry values: N1)
