    Description

    1972 Type Two Dollar, MS66
    Capstone Issue in the Series
    The Finest We Have Handled

1972 $1 Type Two MS66 PCGS. Ex: Sonoran Monsoon. Schechter and Garrett rank the 1972 Type Two Eisenhower dollar 20th on their list of the 100 Greatest U.S. Modern Coins (2011). The authors note:

"Of the 75 million coins produced [at the Mint] that year, an estimated 50 million are of the original, low-relief design, called Type 1. Enthusiasts speculate that a single die-pair of the high-relief design normally used to make Proofs was prepared to make business strikes, testing the design and performance. This is the so-called Type 2 variety."

The issue is sought-after as one of the keys to the series, and examples are conditionally rare at the Gem grade level. Premium Gems are extremely rare with only seven grading events at PCGS, none at NGC, and none finer at either service (11/15). This MS66 Type Two dollar, the single finest example we have handled, features a delicate overlay of champagne-gold toning over lustrous, nickel-gray surfaces. Minimally marked, and perfect for the advanced Registry builder.
