Description

1804 C-13, B-10 Half Cent, AU55
Triple Struck in Collar
Reverse Brockage Maker

1804 1/2 C Plain 4, No Stems, C-13, B-10, R.1 -- Triple Struck in Collar -- AU55 PCGS. Ex: Davy Collection. Additional design elements are particularly evident at 6 and 12 o'clock on the obverse of this impressive half cent error. The date and LIBERTY are clearly doubled, while three distinct neck lines are noted. The puffy or swollen appearance of the reverse results from that side acting as a die to make brockages on the second and third strikes, explaining the lack of extra impressions on that side. Smoothly mottled tan, olive, and walnut-brown surfaces display only trivial handling marks. Impressive eye appeal.
Ex: William K. Raymond (8/24/1977); Davy Collection (Goldberg Coins, 9/2010), lot 185; FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2016), lot 3593.
