1861 Gold Dollar, Struck From Medallically Aligned Dies

1861 G$1 Gold Dollar--Rotated Dies--MS61 NGC. The obverse and reverse are medallically aligned. They are so precisely aligned one has to wonder if the mint employee inadvertently set up the press this way. This sharply struck Civil War gold dollar displays flashy luster across the legends, devices, and borders, and the surfaces are lightly abraded for the grade. As with all 19th century gold coins, even minor errors such as this one are infrequently encountered, and give the error collector one of the few opportunities available to acquire a less-than-perfectly-produced mint product.
