Reverse Die Cap Brockage
1869 5C Shield Nickel -- Reverse Die Cap Brockage -- MS64
NGC. This is a distinctively deep and impressive die cap, with
traces of orange-gold toning and soft mint luster. The first strike
for the present coin did not eject and remained in the coinage
chamber. Another coin was fed into the chamber, causing the die cap
to form as the pressure caused the initial coin to wrap around the
die. Multiple strikes may have occurred, creating this dramatic
dual error with the resulting brockage and remarkably steep reverse
die cap. We expect error specialists to reward this major mint
