Error 1869-S Double Eagle With a Struck Through Obverse

1869-S $20 Double Eagle--Obverse Struck Through--AU50 ANACS. The importance of this coin stems not from whatever rarity may be attached to the 1869-S as an issue, but rather from its status as a legitimate Mint error. The obverse was struck through a long, thin object that overlaid the area from the center to the rim outside star 11. Both sides are partially lustrous with a mostly golden-rose tint. Moderately abraded, the surfaces reveal a few sprays of deeper color at the lower reverse border.
