Description

1872-CC 50C Half Dollar--Struck Off Center--VG10 PCGS. Struck off center at 9 o'clock, affecting the left side stars and the tops of the letters in UNITED, which lack the usual protection of a raised rim. Portions of L-TY in LIBERTY are legible. Navy-blue fields accompany the lavender-brown devices. A problem-free example, this coin perhaps served as a pocket piece for several years. Although early Carson City Halves are not as rare as the other denominations struck at the western mint from this era, a glance at the certified populations suggest that they are much scarcer than their mintages would suggest. An unusual opportunity to acquire an off-center product from the first years of the Carson City Mint. (#6334)
