    Description

    Rare Error 1883-O Morgan Dollar

1883-O $1 Dollar--Broadstruck--MS 62 NGC. This is a sharply impressed example whose lightly abraded surfaces are attractively toned in slate-gray, copper, and orange-russet shades. This coin was struck without a collar, and there is extra flan outside the upper obverse and lower reverse rims. The thoroughness with which the Mint inspected all Morgan dollars explains the rarity of errors in this series. Most improperly produced coins were discovered at the Mint and subsequently melted.
