Struck on a Thin Planchet
1885 5C Liberty Nickel -- Struck on a Thin Planchet -- AU55
NGC. 3.31 gm. The 1885 is the key to the Liberty nickel series,
but the present pearl-gray example is of interest to error
collectors due to its undersized flan. The expected weight is 5.0
gm. Due to the thin planchet, the strike is soft on the stars and
forehead curl, but the extent of bright luster corresponds to the
