Description

Rotated Triple Struck 1891 Cent AU53

1891 1C Indian Cent--Triple Struck, Overlap--AU53 PCGS. The first strike was normal, but the piece failed to eject. Instead, it rotated several degrees counterclockwise, and was struck a second time. Once again, it remained in the coinage chamber, and rotated slightly clockwise before receiving a third impression from the dies. No new planchets were fed in for the second and third strikes. Peripheral elements show the most dramatic doubling. Chocolate-brown and only lightly abraded.
