Gem Multiple Struck on Scrap Kennedy Half
19??-? Kennedy Half Dollar--Multiple Struck on Scrap--MS65 PCGS. 68 gn. The scrap resembles a half dollar planchet irregularly cut in half. It has a copper core thinly plated on both sides with a nickel alloy. This scrap covered the left half of a die pair, and was struck at least twice. For the first strike, only the scrap was present between dies. For the final strike, a newly fed planchet obstructed the obverse die, causing the obverse design of the present piece to expand and distort.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24UA, PCGS# 6716, Greysheet# 6913)
