Description
Very Rare Double Eagle Strike Through Error
1900 Twenty Dollars--Obverse Struck Through--ANACS. Unc Details, Net MS 60. To anyone remotely familiar with errors, it goes without saying how rare any form of error is in a gold coin. Far fewer pieces were made and greater care was taken in producing these precious metal coins, resulting in very few errors having escaped the Mint. This coin appears to have been struck through either a metal fragment or possibly a wood splinter next to star 4. Just by star 3 is a grease stain that was also struck into the surface at the same time. The coin is actually much finer than the net grade, having been downgraded because of the strike-through. Clean surfaces, bright mint luster, and pinkish-orange color characterize the appearance of this lovely and obviously very rare gold error.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 9460)
